Mike Sumner RAVECLiCK.com Promotions Department/ Message Board Moderator AKA: Quoth Contact
Biography : -Whether it's techno, trance, drum-n-bass, house..one thing is always for sure...Mike is synonomous with every genre of electronica and has been so since a very early age.
Born in Brooklyn, New York and now residing in New Jersey...Growing up, he listened to everything from freestyle to cheesy house. It was not until Mike was 11 yrs old that he became wrapped into the soothing sounds of electronica. His main influence was his cousin, David....widely recognized in the underground rave and club culture as dj/producer: Function. From going to visit time to time..his cousin would always invite him to the basement...where set-up....were 2 turntable...huge speakers..and crates upon crates of records. It was in that very basement that circa 1992, Mike was introduced to such sounds as, Aphex Twin, The Orb, Kraftwerk, Alec Empire, Derrick May, Underground Resistance, and countless other producers and generes.
At that time, Ambient Techno was extremely popular and Mike quickly fell in love with the sounds of: The ORB and Aphex Twin (a.k.a. Richard D. James). After having that 1st dose of these people creating synthetic sounds with nothing more than a Roland drum machine, Synthesizer, and TB-303 wave form modulator..it was quite apparent that Mike had a new passion in life..and that was...electronic music.
From then on...he divulged more and more into electronic music making discoveries himself and learning about the different generes and the djs and producers who made them. As if that wasn't enough, as Mike grew older, electronic culture started to flourish and by that time he discovered: The club scene..a place where u can see and hear your idols of electronic music culture.
To no one's surprise, Mike's first clubbing experience was at the now-defunct, TUNNEL. A former MTA depot turned club, The Tunnel was one of NYC's hottest club at the time, circa 1999. Trance, and house was the music of choice and it certainly drew out the crowds on friday and saturday nights.
it was not long after that Mike had discovered, Limelight...which was to become his new home away from home. Limelight was a place where all of his favorite techno idols would dj and perform such as: Jeff Mills, The Advent, Surgeon, James Ruskin, Joey Beltram, Ben Sims, Steve Bicknell, Alexi Delano, and countless others. To Mike, Limelight will forever remain a techno club in his heart and mind despite new owndership and renovations that have altered the club's vibe.
Not a day goes by that he does not have electronic music and most importantly culture...in his mind and heart.
Without a doubt, electronic music is his passion as well as his drug of choice.
